Solas means ‘light’ in Gaelic and that’s an excellent word to describe this modern brasserie style restaurant, completed in 2007.  The sophisticated light and sound system means that the ambience may be adjusted to suit  the time of day.

Head chef, Phil, has a passion for cooking and has travelled the world developing his skills in preparing fish, shellfish, local lamb and other fresh local food in some of the finest locations for the production of these ingredients.  He then returned to Scotland and the Outer Hebrides, to discover that our own fresh foods are in every way a match for those he found during his travels.

Fresh, Scottish ingredients are used extensively, including superb local fish and seafood.

03-14-appleHebridean langoustines and scallops are particularly good and well worth sampling, as are Lewis lamb, Angus beef, Leurbost mussels, local estate venison, Stornoway black pudding and other delicacies.  Fish varieties will vary according to catches – monkfish is occasionally available at this popular restaurant in Stornoway and is a great treat at a fraction of London prices.

Private Dining

Solas-Restaurant-in-StornowayParties up to around16 guests may be comfortable accommodated in a luxurious private dining area of Solas Restaurant (20 guests at a ‘pinch’).

The location is luxuriously appointed and ideal for a business dinner, a family celebration or perhaps a small wedding reception.

Alternatively, all of the hotel’s banqueting suites are available for parties of between around 20 and 180 guests to be catered for by Solas’ staff.

03-14-salmonA limited ‘All Day’ lounge menu may be ordered from 12 noon until 9pm, Monday through Saturday, for service in the reception lounge, the conservatory or cocktail bar.  It’s also available in your room at lunch and dinner times (small tray charge applies).
