Solas means ‘light’ in Gaelic and that’s an excellent word to describe this modern brasserie style restaurant, completed in 2007. The sophisticated light and sound system means that the ambience may be adjusted to suit the time of day.
Head chef, Phil, has a passion for cooking and has travelled the world developing his skills in preparing fish, shellfish, local lamb and other fresh local food in some of the finest locations for the production of these ingredients. He then returned to Scotland and the Outer Hebrides, to discover that our own fresh foods are in every way a match for those he found during his travels.
We regularly launch new sets of menus – all the food shots on this page feature items from the menus, to which you’ll find links at the bottom of this page.
TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence – an explanation.
From a TripAdvisor member: “The menu was superb and so was the food and wine. The waiter and waitresses were very attentive, efficient and friendly – just the kind I like. We had a great evening.”
Fresh, Scottish ingredients are used extensively, including superb local fish and seafood.
Hebridean langoustines and scallops are particularly good and well worth sampling, as are Lewis lamb, Angus beef, Leurbost mussels, local estate venison, Stornoway black pudding and other delicacies. Fish varieties will vary according to catches – monkfish is occasionally available at this popular restaurant in Stornoway and is a great treat at a fraction of London prices.
Menus change regularly to reflect the seasons and availability of ingredients – there are links below to example restaurant menus – note that these are typical menus and will change at from time to time – they are provided only to give you an idea of what to expect.
The location is luxuriously appointed and ideal for a business dinner, a family celebration or perhaps a small wedding reception.
Alternatively, all of the hotel’s banqueting suites are available for parties of between around 20 and 180 guests to be catered for by Solas’ staff.
